Binnacle Staff is a work app for the staff of businesses that run Binnacle. It shows that business's own orders, customer tickets and team messages, and lets staff take calls on their desk extension. It is not for the public: it only works on a phone that a business has paired to one of its staff members from a workstation.

Who is responsible

The business you work for decides what its Binnacle holds and is responsible for that data. Creatico Ltd (United Kingdom) makes the app. Questions about this policy: help@creatico.co.uk.

What the app uses, and why

• Your staff identity and this phone's name — to pair the phone to you, so everything you do is recorded as you, and so your business can switch the phone off.
• The business's work data (orders, tickets, messages, stock, call history) — read from your business's own server over a private, encrypted connection built into the app. It is shown on screen and is not kept on the phone after you close it, apart from a draft reply you are writing.
• Notification tokens — so Apple can deliver alerts and incoming calls. The words of a message are encrypted for your phone alone before they reach Apple; Apple carries them but cannot read them.
• Microphone — only during a call you answer or place.
• Camera — only to scan the pairing code and product barcodes; no image is kept.
• Photos and files you choose — only when you attach one to a message.

What the app does not do

• No advertising, no tracking, no analytics, no third-party SDKs that collect data.
• No selling or sharing of data with anyone.
• No location tracking.

The private connection

The app includes a private network connection (a VPN) that it uses only to reach your business's own Binnacle server. It carries the app's traffic to that server and nothing else; your other browsing and apps are not routed through it, and nothing is logged about them.

Keeping and deleting

Your business keeps its records under its own policies. Signing out of the app, or your business switching the phone off, revokes the phone's access straight away. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the phone.
